When he said that, Ye Qianqian felt an even stronger urge to voice her grouses. “You have no idea how hard it was for me to bear with that pile of gold. It was so heavy I almost...”

She nearly blurted out “died.”

But she reminded herself that today was supposed to be a day of great happiness. She shouldn’t be sulking, whining, or uttering inauspicious words.

She stopped herself and changed her tone, muttering coyly, “It’s so heavy I got a kick out of it!”

Shen Zhilie paused for a while, then he burst out laughing.

Ye Qianqian reached out and poked him in the chest. “What are you laughing at? Marrying you is such a hassle. My sister, on the other hand, wasn’t fussed over this much when she wedded!”

Shen Zhilie held her hand in his, slightly breathless from laughing.

His other hand was not left idle. He undid the necklaces hanging around her neck.

There were three necklaces in all, each one thicker than the last.

There were also numerous bracelets and bangles to tackle.

Shen Zhilie removed them one by one and placed them all on the bedside table.

He counted more than a dozen bracelets.

Shen Zhilie sympathized with her, yet at the same time felt her predicament comical.

After putting everything away, he finally said, “It must have been a hard day for you.”

All the weighty items on Ye Qianqian’s whole body were finally unloaded. She slumped onto the bed and proclaimed, “I’m drained!”

“Well,” Shen Zhilie said, unbuttoning her dress, “this is the first and the last time. Let’s go for a wedding gown for the ceremony in Kingstown.”

“No, no more. I’m exhausted.”

Ye Qianqian let him unbutton her clothes. All of a sudden, she recalled what she thought of this morning.

She narrowed her eyes and teased, “Honey, guess how many layers of clothing I’m wearing.”

“I have no idea,” Shen Zhilie replied as he continued undoing the buttons. “I’ll know when I’ve taken them all off.”

Ye Qianqian thought so, too. She didn’t care anymore and closed her eyes.

She fell asleep in no time.

In her slumber, she felt as if she was soaring high in the sky. Suddenly, she felt a cooling sensation on her body.

She felt a tickling, warm sensation on her face and neck.

She turned her head aside, only to have his lips pressed against hers.

She opened her eyes in a daze. Shen Zhilie’s face was close to hers.

He smiled and whispered, “Eight layers.”

Before she knew it, he suddenly lifted her legs.

But his clothes were still intact.

“What are you doing?” Ye Qianqian asked.

“It’s our wedding night.” Shen Zhilie’s cheeks were blushing. He looked at her with a burning gaze. “What do you think I want to do?”

“Not so fast...” Ye Qianqian covered her face. “You’ve just kissed my face full of makeup. Don’t...”

Shen Zhilie put her down. “Come on now, remove your makeup and come to bed.”

“I’m sleepy. Come and help me.”

“Why are you so lazy?” Shen Zhilie pinched her nose playfully and went to the dressing table. “Which one is the makeup remover?”

Shen Zhilie combed through the items on the dresser. Ye Qianqian put on an inner garment and walked over to get it herself.

All the other garments on her body had been stripped off. She was wearing only one thin layer, appearing half-naked.

Shen Zhilie’s gaze grew hotter.

But Ye Qianqian didn’t realize his burning desire at all. After removing her makeup, she went to the bathroom to wash her face.

When she was halfway through, with her face still covered in soapy foam, he grasped her from behind.

“I’ll help you.” Shen Zhilie scooped up some water with his hands and wiped her face.

But he did nothing to clean her face and wet her clothes instead.

Ye Qianqian was annoyed. She turned around and opened her mouth to say something, but her lips were sealed.

Shen Zhilie carried her to the bed and pressed her down in a heartbeat.
